Hello again!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything on here. So while I'm waiting for the pumpkin custard to finish cooking and the parents to arrive from the great white north, I thought I share a quick thought about Thanksgiving.
Raw turkeys are slippery, heavy, and slightly gross!
(I'll post photos of the dinner and prep work later)
Happy Thanksgiving!

All Shook Up

Tom and I and Henry have been in Oklahoma for 2 years and 5 months and in that time we have experienced the strangest weather and natural disasters.
A short list of the oddities:
  • 20 tornadoes in an afternoon
  • Softball size hail
  • Widespread flooding caused by 10 inches of rain in a morning
  • Wildfires within the city limits
  • A blizzard that would have lived up to South Dakota standards
  • Hurricane rain
Well today we had an earthquake. A 5.1 magnitude earthquake to be exact. Really?!? An earthquake, what's next? It shook the whole town and was felt as far away as Tennessee.
So in honor of todays events, here's a list of rockin' and rollin' good songs:
  • "If the House is a Rockin'"-Stevie Ray Vaughn
  • "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On"-Jerry Lee Lewis
  • "Shake It Up"-The Cars
  • "Good Vibrations"-The Beach Boys
  • "Shake Your Booty"-KC and the Sunshine Band
  • "Shake Shake Shake Senora"-Harry Belefonte
  • "You Shoke Me All Night Long"-AC/DC
  • "I Felt the Earth Move"-Carole King
  • "Rock This Town"-Stray Cats
  • "All Shook Up"-Elvis Presley

Happy Wednesday!

Boomer Sooner

Well, in case you didn't know, this is OU-Texas weekend. And it's kind of a big deal down here. The Red River Rivalry is one of the longest most intense rivalries in sports. This is one of the largest adjustments Tom and I have had to make since moving south. Don't get me wrong, we like our professional football, but people down here REALLY like their college football. We have become well versed in Big 12 this and NCAA that. We've learned that OU's colors are not red and white, but crimson and cream. I've purchased the obligatory t-shirt and even occasionaly wear it. So for all the diehard OU fans, this weekend might as well be a national holiday. Radio stations have created OU-Texas songs. And everybody knows at least one Texas Sucks joke.
So with that being said, I'm going to settle in on the couch and watch some college football. Boomer Sooner!!!

Look Familiar?

So last night, Tom and I stopped by CVS Pharmacy to pick up some munchies before heading to the movie theatre. Yes, we're those people who sneak pursefulls of candy and soda into the theatre to avoid paying outrageously high prices for snacks. Well, while walking down the candy aisle, I spotted this.....

Remind you of anybody?

Lazy Summer Days

I had every intention of posting our vacation photos over the long weekend. But of course, that didn't happen. So until I get a chance to do that, I'll leave you with these little gems from our Labor Day weekend.

Hope your weekend was as "sweet" as ours!

Cuppies and Joe

In an attempt to beat last weekends heat, Tom and I and our friends James and Amy visited Cuppies and Joe, a local dessert shop. It's located in central OKC in this cute little remodeled Arts and Crafts house.

Amy got the Bangarang cupcake. A chocolate cuppie with mocha icing.

I got the Boom Boom Pow cupcake. A vanilla bean cake with chocolate buttercream, caramel, and sea salt.

Tom got the Sass-a-frass cupcake. A red velvet cuppie with buttercream frosting. (Notice the piping hot cup of coffee in Tom's hand? He had four of them and preceeded to stay up until 2:00AM playing Wii.)

I think James got the Neverland cupcake, I couldn't get the camera out in time. It's a peanut butter cuppie with chocolate glaze and a Hershey's Kiss.

James set a great example and the cupcakes were gobbled up very quickly.

These delicious cupcakes were just what we needed to escape the Oklahoma summer heat. Another way to beat the heat? Leave the state! Tom and I are headed back to South Dakota next week.
See y'all real soon!

105 Degrees

What do you do when it's 105 degrees outside?

Chew on a new toy,

Have a little snack,

And take a nap with your favorite friend.
Stay cool Oklahoma!

Doggie Playgroup

Say "Hi" to Riley!

Riley's mom and dad (aka our friends Amy and James) are out of town this weekend, so we are looking after Riley. She's a very good, well-behaved dog, but she's not quite used to Henry's...shall we say energy. He was more or less begging her to play.
Please Riley, can we play ball? Or can I just chase you around the living room?

How about now? Are you ready to play now?

Needless to say, Riley was not interested. She was, however, interested in eating Henry's food. Now, everytime Riley comes to our house, she promptly checks Henry's dish. I find it pretty funny, but Henry has decided he doesn't like sharing his food with girls. As soon as she takes a break from eating, Henry will finish off the entire bowl of food without taking a break.

He will share the water though!
They settled down pretty quickley and watched cars and birds for the majority of the afternoon.
Both dogs are very calm now. Riley's laying down behind my chair and Henry is stretched out the entire length of the couch.

Katie, can Riley stay longer?

Day at the golf course

I planned a day at the golf course for my first weekend off in about a month. Despite my excitement to go out and "swing the clubs" I didn't make it until this afternoon. My rusty planning was clearly evident as I scheduled the tee time for 2:15, thinking I would miss the heat of the day. However, in Oklahoma the hottest part of the day is b/w about 3-7 PM. Should have known better.
So the round started under diret sun with temps in the mid 90's. However I was chilling in my brand new and "fabulously fuchsia" nike golf polo, thanks mom. That coupled with my new Frog Togg "chilly pad" and the heat was held at bay. (see attached link for info on the chilly pad my new oklahoma must have accessory) The round was a brisk 3.5 hrs mediocre 91. Some good shots not too many bad but several mental mistakes for which I blame the weather. Had good company with James who nearly made two birdies in an afternoon. I am feeling pretty good to have two birdies a month. Shot of the day was probably the 190 yard hybrid 3 iron over the trees toward a hidden green inside of 20 feet for a routine 2 putt par. Worst shot of the day was a sky high drive that fell shot of the fairway and in the pond with a brand new Pro V1 which I had just pulled out of the bag, go figure.
Well that is my lazy Sunday afternoon at the golf course. Hopefully I will get better at this blogging stuff and maybe next time post some photos.
Have a great week!!!!

How?

Morning drives can become very routine. Same route, day after day. But every once in awhile something snaps you out of your trance. That happened to me today.....

I saw this out of the corner of my eye as I drove past the local car wash. I then stopped the car, threw it into reverse and took a picture. My first thought was "How?" How does one manage to get a full sized extended cab pickup in a drainage ditch? Did he think he could jump it? Or forget to put the truck in park? However the truck got into the ditch, it was out this afternoon on my way home. Which prompted another question...how strong was the tow truck that pulled OUT the pickup?

Food for thought on a Friday afternoon! Have a great weekend!

Bird on a Car

Hello!
So my mother has been telling me I need to start a blog. Not really sure why, my life is fairly boring. Anyway, here it is-BirdOnaCar.blogspot.com.
Why Bird On a Car you might ask? About a year ago, Tom and I were walking through the Walmart parking lot and Tom spotted a (you guessed it) bird on a car. He thought this was the funniest thing, literally tears were rolling down his cheeks. I asked him why this was so amusing. He said you never see birds on cars. Just think about it, on trees, rocks, or schrubs, sure but never cars. So now whenever there is a BOAC sighting, we will text each other. Photos are included if possible. See I told you, very boring life!
Anyway, thanks for reading my first post. Hopefully I'll have more non-boring stories to share!
